Expert electrical equipment installation

Our highly trained engineers, Authorised Persons, jointers and electrical fitters install and support distribution equipment up to 33,000 Volts, completing detailed site surveys, method statements and risk assessments prior to the commencement of works.

The installation of electrical equipment represents a critical phase within our operational framework. Transformers and switchgear are transported to site & positioned utilising our wagon-mounted Hiab crane, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and mitigating the risk of damage. Each item of equipment is sited on pre-engineered bases or bunds, aligned to specified orientation requirements and maintaining all mandated clearances.

High voltage cabling and testing

We install high voltage cable using approved methods, including trenching or duct installation, using industry standard controlled pulling methods. Jointing and terminations are completed by our qualified jointers using approved joint and termination kits for the appropriate cable, such as Triplex, XLPE or PILC/PICAS.

Testing is carried out prior to energisation to verify the installed apparatus & cabling is fit for service.

Our installation capabilities include:

  • Transformer installation
  • High & Low Voltage switchgear installation
  • Off-loading and positioning of all distribution equipment, including all delivery requirements
  • Cable installation, terminations and jointing up to 33kV
  • Testing and commissioning
  • All civil and fabrication services
  • Substation fit-out and GRP installation

We are fully certified under numerous major accreditation schemes including Constructionline, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, NICEIC, Achilles UVDB, Lloyds Register.

Frequently Asked Questions

We follow agreed waste management plans, provide suitable oil containment, and comply with PCB handling rules and cable recycling requirements. Our designs and equipment selections take account of relevant Ecodesign Regulations and environmental standards.

We plan shutdowns in detail, agreeing outage windows, switching schedules and any temporary supplies in advance. Our team also liaises closely with the client and other contractors, so that works are completed safely, and power is restored on time.

At handover, we provide as-built drawings, test certificates, O&M manuals, asset registers and commissioning reports. Where required, we also deliver training for site staff, so they understand how to operate and look after the new equipment.

We provide a full range of testing and commissioning services, including pressure testing, VLF/AC testing, fault location, relay testing, functional checks, system phasing, insulation resistance & cable overvoltage testing. All results are recorded and issued as part of the project handover.

We work in line with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (EAWR), BS EN 61936, BS 7671, relevant ENA TS standards and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM). Project-specific company and client safety rules are also applied on every site.

Our engineers include HV Senior Authorised Persons (SAPs) with authorisations for network operations & access, as well as trained cable jointers. Our teams also hold relevant confined space certification, CSCS/ECS cards, first aid training and other role-specific qualifications required to work safely on & in proximity to High Voltage Apparatus & Cables.
